As usual, Oliver Willis sums up civily what we would do very, very rudely.

Which is why we really like the guy:

To sum up - I don't think God was really actively rooting for Tony Dungy in the Superbowl. But I think that the Universal Power was pleased when Doug Williams threw four touchdowns in one quarter in January of 1987.

Well played as usual Oliver.

"another horendous setback for the bush administration"

How many more times will the US be reading that line?

President George W. Bush lacks the power to order the military to seize and indefinitely detain a Qatari national and suspected al Qaeda operative who is the only person being held in the United States as an "enemy combatant," a U.S. appeals court ruled on Monday.

In a major setback for the Bush's policies in the war on terrorism adopted after the September 11 attacks, the appellate panel ruled the government's evidence afforded no basis to treat Ali Saleh Kahlah al-Marri as an "enemy combatant" and ordered his release from military custody.

You stupid, horrid, criminal, POS. Fuck you.

You see, you did know there were no WMD's. The Weapons inspectors told you that. You are on tape saying that Saddam was not a threat. Let's repeat that. Before the war you were video taped saying Saddam was not a threat.

But you lied and sold your soul to the criminals in the repuglican party so Chimpy could have his abortion of a war in Iraq. So, fuck you Colin. You're a goddam fucking liar. Go to hell, bitch.

"If we knew then what we know today, that there were no weapons of mass destruction, I would have had nothing to take to the United Nations," replied Powell. "We rested our case on the existence of weapons of mass destruction that were a threat to us and could be given to terrorists making it another kind of threat to us. I think without that weapons of mass destruction case the justification would not have been there ..."

the ‘bloggers can be mean’ defense.”

Yea, 'cause when you are a lying sack of shit, people point it out to you.

When representatives of the news media asked that the letters be released, Mr. Libby’s lawyers argued against that, saying it “needlessly risks undermining the fair administration of justice.”

Then, alluding to the sometimes combative world of online media, they added there was “the real possibility that these letters, once released, would be published on the Internet and their authors discussed, even mocked, by bloggers.”

the national disgrace that is the george a"W"ol shrub continues to shame the US.

US President George W. Bush drew gasps at the Vatican on Saturday by referring to Pope Benedict XVI as "sir" instead of the expected "His Holiness," pool reporters said.

A prison is right out of repuglican science fiction.

It is not as if the United States government doesn't have access to the mountains of information that shows these techniques are incredibly unreliable and counterproductive. It's not as if they don't know that there are much better ways of extracting information. It's not as if over the course of centuries we developed a set of moral guidelines that define what it means to be a decent society. They know all these things. They just chose to use television shows and movies as their guideline instead of real information, real morality or the rule of law.

Let's just say they aren't the greatest at unilaterally discerning who's guilty and who's not. Which, again, is the fucking reason for due process in the first place.

So, they adopted a torture first, ask questions later approach based upon ... what? Season 1 of "24"?

Stop it.

It's unacceptable to write someone's employers about something they wrote on the internet if they were not representing their employers when they did so. There's no gray area here. It's wrong. Don't do it.

Retirement benefits. Yea. Right. Retirement benefits.

Nooo, its because you, Dick Pace, are a fucking incompetent careerist. Work your retirement benefit package while US children die under your incompetent greedy management!

Loren Thompson, head of the Lexington Institute think tank, wrote in February: “there is speculation that the widely-liked Mullen is actually being groomed to replace Gen. Peter Pace when he departs as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff in the fall. Pace’s early departure is said to be related more to the triggering of certain retirement benefits than his close association with the discredited former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld.”

Operation Mockingbird

Truth about illegal crimes by the US government exposed by Democratic oversight.

"The CIA currently maintains a network of several hundred foreign individuals around the world who provide intelligence for the CIA and at times attempt to influence opinion through the use of covert propaganda. These individuals provide the CIA with direct access to a large number of newspapers and periodicals, scores of press services and news agencies, radio and television stations, commercial book publishers, and other foreign media outlets."

Guess who's on the payroll these days?

Bill O'Reilly and Sean Hannity were, according to Wikipedia, propagandists for the CIA

Imagine our shock.

The inspectors did go in, as we all know. Still, some say the inspectors went in, some say they didn't, who is to say who is right?

Mitt Romney is a miserable stupid fuck. Goddam you lying fucking repugs.

If you're saying let's turn back the clock and Saddam Hussein had opening up his country to IAEA inspectors and they'd come in and they'd found that there were no weapons of mass destruction, had Saddam Hussein therefore not violated United Nations resolutions, we wouldn't be in the conflict we're in.

But he didn't do those things, and we knew what we knew at the point we made the decision to get in.

The World Health Organization ranks America at 37 in the world—not two, or five—37

Except for one thing: We're not first. America isn't ranked anywhere near first in anything except military might and snotty billionaires. The country that is ranked No. 1 in health care, for example, is France. The World Health Organization ranks America at 37 in the world—not two, or five—37, in between Costa Rica and Slovenia, which are both years away from discovering dentistry. Yet an American politician could not survive if he or she uttered the simple, true statement, "France has a better health-care system than us, and we should steal it." Because here, simply dismissing an idea as French passes for an argument.

VFW To Marine Corps: "Exercise A Little Common Sense," Drop Probe Of Anti-War Veterans

The Corps shoots itself in the foot, again. Vehemently 'protecting' the Corps by prosecuting this guy, the Corps comes off weak, paranoid, juvenile, fearful and petty in a time of war when recruitment has been a bit of a problem lately. These guys look themselves in the mirror and assure them selves they are doing the right thing by fucking this guy.

The US Marine Corps miss the point completely and they badly lose the Strategic Communications battle and the Perception Management battle because some thin skinned officer got his feathers ruffled. Dumb, Dumb, Dumb.
.

The nation's largest combat veterans group on Friday urged the military to "exercise a little common sense" and call off its investigation of a group of Iraq war veterans who wore their uniforms during anti-war protests.

"Trying to hush up and punish fellow Americans for exercising the same democratic right we're trying to instill in Iraq is not what we're all about," said Gary Kurpius, national commander of the 2.4 million-member Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Defend the Children of the Poor & Punish the Wrongdoer

On the dome above the court is to be found the statue of Lady Justice, a woman holding in her right hand a sword standing for the power to punish, and in her left hand a balance standing for equity. The statue is not blindfolded, as most images of Lady Justice are, and this fact has received many a scoff from criminals being brought into the Old Bailey, remarking that their justice is not impartial and unbiased.

During the Blitz, the Old Bailey was bombed and severely damaged, but subsequent reconstruction work restored most of it in the early 1950's. In 1952 the restored interior of the Grand Hall of the Central Criminal Courts was once again open.
