Contempt for the Villagers: AKA the Perception Managers
Obviously tire swing McCain has a special place in the hearts of the Villagers, but his standing Sunday show gig is also a symptom of another problem. So often watching these shows I feel like I'm trapped in a previous decade, with the same idiots (I'm looking at you George Will) telling me what I'm supposed to think about things that were doing so 10-15 years ago.
Who keeps permitting McCain onto these shows? Why does George Will still have a salary? Are there other politicians and writers that could make tv and print more money that those two dinosaurs? Of course! But the powers that be enjoy and prefer the Village. Because the Village is reflexively apologetic to republicans. The Village is making the most republican money it can. Not the most money it can.

Queen of the First Amendment.
So! When Ann Althouse decided it was in her interests to go after someone else because of their comments section, she tore comments absurdly out of context, manipulated them to make her point, and refused to admit she got caught pulling some pretty spectacularly obvious bullshit.
But now that Andrew Sullivan is going after her because of actual hateful quotes in her own comments section, gosh that's awful cannot do that no gosh darn I am the Queen of the First Amendment.

And this is the point: Repuglicans are going to suck ass for decades after public option passes. As the blue states sink Titanically, the long slow drama will continue to fuck repugs. At least if it passes for everyone, in a few years repugs can re-write history and get elected again. But right now, they are on their way to epic fail.
