Want more voices? Want more fair media? Want more reporters (as opposed to every conflomerate laying off all the duplicates and leaving a few remaining reporters to do the work done by multiple news rooms in the past)? The first step is to break up the media conglomerates. I wouldn't even bother with an anti-trust suit. I'd just pass an act of Congress and break them up. No more than one newspaper per market owned by any one owner. No more than one radio station per market. Hard cap how much of the TV universe can be owned by any one corporation (much easier to do now in the new cable/sattelite world).
And enforce that news organizations must remain seperate from non news organizations.
It ain't rocket science. It isn't a hard question, nor is the answer hard. Republican policies favour the interests of the people who run the media, even more than Democratic policies. They act on their interests. So break them up. If they want to play politics for their enrichment they've made themselves players.
And when you choose to play, you become fair game.
